Hunting is governed by the Act Respecting the Conservation and Development of Wildlife. It’s therefore important to comply with the various regulations governing this activity. Your outfitters are experts on the subject, so don’t hesitate to ask them any questions.

Hunting licence

• Anyone wishing to hunt in Quebec must hold a hunting licence. To obtain a licence, you must hold a valid hunter’s certificate. To obtain this certificate you need to take two courses: handling a firearm and initiation into hunting.
• An initiation licence is available for residents age 12 and older who have never held a hunter’s certificate.
• For migratory bird hunting, you must hold two licences: a migratory bird hunting permit (available in post offices) and a small game hunting licence.
• You can obtain a hunting licence from any authorized sales agents, such as sporting goods, hardware or convenience stores and from certain outfitters. For pricing information, consult the hunting rules on the website of the Ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs

Bag limits

Bag limits are based on the type of animal, the number of hunters and the hunting zone. For more information on limits, consult the Ministère’s website.

Others regulations

There are many other hunting rules and regulations. In particular, we encourage you to learn about the transportation, registration and exportation of big game as well as the procedures to follow in case of an accidental killing.

Vehicles and boats used for hunting, the wearing of a fluorescent orange garment, hunting with dogs and many other things are also regulated.
